A self portrait from a week of micro and macro upheaval. The Supreme Court rules against trans inclusion in single-sex spaces and a friend passes away. The portrait feels restricted, constrained, and uncertain. There’s a precariousness in the small figure in the mirror, in his blurred expression. In opposition to other self-portraits, there’s a level of distortion, a lack of clarity. Grief or fear can create moments of stillness. There’s a commitment in this act of self-portraiture to search for yourself, to confront yourself, to commit to yourself when you are lost.
